Summertime

I’ve been sitting here studying Japanese for the past 90 minutes while watching some videos for some background noise. I needed a break. Badly. Normally, I’m the type of person that can pour myself into something and with minimal breathers stay put and concentrate. Today is not one of those days. It’s probably from a lack of sleep. I’ve averaged about 5 hours a night for the past month or so. Anyway, it struck me that none of the kanji and words I’m reviewing are going to stick.

I needed a break.

I needed to update my blog.

Things here are mostly the same. There’s something odd about the weather in Japan. The temperature changes drastically over night. About 6 weeks ago I was still using my heater at night. Then, I woke up one morning sweating, and since that time I usually lounge around my apartment without a shirt on at night because it’s just too warm. It will do the same thing next December again when I go from being comfortable in my apartment to watching my water pipes freeze overnight suddenly.

I’ve recently decided I need to get some goals for Japanese set up. I’ve had some goals for my kanji studying but I have failed at them. Horribly. Probably some of the worst goal failing I’ve ever done. I going to keep plugging away at that but in order to get some feeling of accomplishment I’ve decided to come up with some other ones.

The first one is to start doing my Japanese blog more regularly. I use Lang-8 (a good site, btw if you want to study language) and have a Japanese blog. Nothing impressive but it gets the job done. Anyway, I’m sporadic about it. I’ve decided I need to work on updating it at least twice a week.

Secondly, I need to start and again routinely update a v-blog. I actually find the idea of blogs fairly repulsive; however, I also see them as a good way for people to find things out about a situation they might not otherwise know. I might even up the ante and make a Japanese v-blog. We shall see.

I’ve been biking a lot lately and have done a decent job at restarting my workout routines. I’m happy I lost about 6-7 lbs in May. I won’t lose quite as much this month since my neck has been a bit troublesome the past 2 weeks. I think I’ll be able to lose around 3 in June. Another 2 – 3 lbs after that and I should be at a pretty ripped weight.

I see I’ve been getting a few more hits to this blog. I’m happy about that. Thanks to anyone who checks up regularly (if you exist). That’s pretty cool. I’ll try to come up with a good topic for the next one. I’ll try not to stay away so long between posts, too.

Have you tried the book ‘Remembering the kanji’ by James Heisig? It helped me a lot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembering_the_Kanji_and_Remembering_the_Hanzi#Heisig.27s_method
